I put my last tax payment in the mail by the due date and now my new bill shows a balance due. Why?

All payments are credited based on the date of receipt and not the postmark date. In accordance with Mass. General Law, interest begins on the first day after the due date and payment is posted to interest and fees first and then tax.

If you mail your payment, you should allow 7 days for delivery to assure timely delivery as there is no local mail.  All mail goes to an out-of-town central clearing facility.  If you forget to allow sufficient time to mail your payment, you may wish to pay using one of the other payment options available to Medway residents (see Tools for Taxpayers link) on this webpage.
