The Medway Council on Aging and Medway High School Host the 6th Annual Veterans Project Event on May 25, 2023

6th Annual Veterans Project Event

The Medway Council on Aging in collaboration with Medway High School, hosted the sixth annual Veterans Project Event at the Senior Center on Thursday, May 25, 2023. There was standing room only as Courtney Riley, Senior Center Director, welcomed everyone to the event. During her opening remarks, she mentioned that she enjoys seeing the interaction between the students and the veterans. She shared that at the start of the project, she saw the students arrive with a bit of apprehension, but she was happy to witness by the end of the interview process a friendship forming between the students and the veterans.  Marcia Lombardo, Outreach Worker for the Medway Senior Center and founder of this event, offered opening remarks about how the program came to Medway. She noted the event was an idea she saw that was successful in another town. She approached Medway High School teacher Aubrey Rojee with the idea of her students interviewing Medway Veterans and sharing their individual stories as part of the history program. She was happy to report that Aubrey loved the idea and this wonderful project has been going strong for six years!

Annabella Diamandis sang the National Anthem and then the group stood to say the pledge of allegiance.

Margaret Monaghan and Annabella DeLuca presented the story of Mr. William Kulik.

Abigail Brown and Kathryn Gage presented the story of Mr. Richard Fennelly.

Annabella Diamandis and Madalyn Marks presented the story of Mr. John Darling.

Mason White, Madelyn White, and Colin Roberts presented the story of Mr. John Simcox (not present).

Erin Weafer, Julie Evers, and Sophia Barresi presented the story of Mr. George Hamm.

Thank you to the five veterans, and twelve students for your hard work and beautifully presenting these stories, and to all involved in putting this excellent program together.
