Citizen Spotlight: Kathy Gaudreau

Medway resident Kathy Gaudreau has been named Lion of the Year by the Medway Lions Club.  Gaudreau, who has been a Medway resident since 1979 has been a Lion since 2002.  She has served the Lions in a variety of ways including: 3 terms as a board member; 3 years as Publicity Chair; and, 2 years as Secretary.  Next year she will serve as third Vice President/Public Relations next year.  Gaudreau is also an active member in community events including: participating in the monthly bottles and cans drive; the Pancake breakfast; the Father Daughter Dance; the Senior cook-out; as a scholarship essay reader; and, selling Christmas trees.

In addition to the incredible amount she does for the community through the Medway Lions Club, Gaudreau volunteers with the Monday Night Homeless Ministry and Project Just Because.  She is also a St. Vincent de Paul council member.  In the past she has served as a Girl Scout leader, CCD teacher, Home and School Board Member, St. Joseph Parish Council member, Relay for Life committee member and participant, Medway Amateur Basketball Association Board Member and Assistant Girls Basketball Coach, and Library Trustee.

Gaudreau recently retired as Director of Special Education for Dedham Public Schools after working as a preschool special education teacher in North Attleboro Public Schools.  She worked in public education for over 30 years and holds a BS in Special Education/Elementary Education, a M.E.d in Special Education, and a CAGS in Educational Leadership. 

Gaudreau and her husband Normand have two children, Kristen and Matthew, and a granddaughter, Eliza.  When she is not helping others she enjoys reading, kayaking, walking, snowshoeing, and traveling.  She tries to include one extra fun event per trip whether it is a hot air balloon ride, parasailing, river rapids, or zip lining.  The most exciting to date was a helicopter ride to a glacier in Alaska and then ice climbing.
