Pet Waste

We want to thank you for picking up after your pet; HOWEVER, please DO NOT DISPOSE of pet waste bags in stormwater basins!

Pet waste should only be disposed of in the trash.   There are over 1500 licensed dogs in Medway and each one can produce up to a pound of waste containing over 7 billion bacteria daily!

Certain bacteria and parasites found in pet waste, such as, such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium, can survive for long periods when left on the ground (which is why it’s important to pick up after your pet at home too!). During a rainstorm, these pollutants are washed into local rivers, ponds and into local drinking water supplies. Therefore, disposing of pet waste in a stormwater basin or a catch basin is especially harmful because it is directly connected to our waterways.
