Constellation donates $10,000 to the Medway Community Farm for food insecurity

The sun shone brightly on Tuesday, April 16, as farm members warmly welcomed executives from Constellation Energy (formerly Exelon Corp.). During their visit, Paul Weeks, Vice President of Operations; Cheryl Stevens, Operations Analyst; and Bobbie Sterne, Site Manager of Medway's energy plant, presented a $10,000.00 check to the farm for food insecurity. Carol Collord, Board President; Carl Rice, Board member; John Foresto, Board member; Debi Rossi, Board member; Todd Sandstrum, Farm Manager; Laura Bonitatibus, Farm Operations Manager; and Glenn Trindade, Board member, and Select Board Chair, and Town Manager Michael Boynton were all there to accept the donation on behalf of the farm.

Constellation has donated $50,000 for its health and social services grant program over the past five years. This funding directly supports the implementation and execution of initiatives the farm has pursued, such as collaborating with the Council on Aging to create and distribute a CSA share for SNAP/HIP recipients, becoming an authorized WIC vendor, continuing with food donations, and implementing crisis cards. Collord noted, "The operational support provided by the grant will enable us to manage and sustain these programs effectively over the grant period. We are grateful to Constellation for its ongoing support."

Following the check presentation, Carol and Todd led the group on a farm tour, providing an up-close and personal view of its operations. This allowed the group to learn more about the impact of their donation on the community.

The Board extends its gratitude to Constellation Energy, the Medway Select Board, Town Manager Michael Boynton, the community, and the countless volunteers for their support of the farm and for recognizing the importance of programs addressing food insecurity.

A special thank you to Sue Rorke for her fantastic photography skills!
