Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence affects persons of all races, ethnic backgrounds, ages, income levels, and sexual orientation. It encompasses a wide range of behaviors designed to control victims which often form a pattern.  Victims face isolation, manipulation, fear, shame, and physical abuse from their partners.

The Medway Police Department responds to incidents involving domestic violence frequently. Our officers will investigate the incident and where appropriate seek charges and/or assist with obtaining protective orders.

Victims should go to Wrentham District Court 60 East Street Wrentham Ma. 02093 to obtain an order when the court is in session. If the court is not in session, our officers will assist with obtaining an emergency order which will be valid until 4:00 p.m. on the next court business day.

Persons who are eligible for a protective order are or were:

  • Married,
  • or residing together in the same household,
  • or in a substantive dating relationship,
  • or related by blood or marriage,
  • or have a child in common.

A Protective Order can order an abuser to refrain from Abuse because your abuser has:

  • Harmed or attempted to harm you physically,
  • Or put you in fear of imminent serious physical harm,
  • Or caused you to engage in sexual relations involuntarily by using force, threat, or duress.

Persons who live in Medway or left Medway to avoid abuse are eligible to apply for an emergency protective order through the department or an emergency order at the Wrentham District Court.
