The Medway Police Department is dedicated to providing domestic violence victims and their families with the highest level of support. Did you know that on average; almost 24 people per minute are physically abused by their partner in the United States? That is more than 12 million women and men over the course of a year.

Domestic violence can present itself in many ways; it includes physical violence, sexual violence, threats, intimidation, stalking, emotional abuse and psychological abuse. Abusers use these behaviors to gain power and control over their partner. Domestic violence affects all people regardless of age, socio-economic status, gender, sexual orientation, religion, race or nationality.

  • 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence, sexual violence and/or stalking. These victims report impacts such as injury, PTSD, fearfulness, and contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, among many others.
  • Domestic violence is most prevalent in women between the ages of 18 and 24.
  •  1 in 10 women in the U.S. have been raped by an intimate partner in her lifetime.
  • 30 to 60% of perpetrators of intimate partner violence also abuse children in the household.
  • 1 in 10 high school students have experienced physical violence from a dating partner.
