Town of Medway Spotlight | Richard Boucher, Director of Information Services

Rich Boucher

The Information Technology (I.T.) Department is responsible for maintaining the Town and Schools’ computer systems, local area networks, switches, servers, telecommunications, data storage devices, and other items related to technology.

The department currently has six staff members with over 100 years of combined professional I.T. support experience.  The I.T. Department’s highly trained staff has a complex and important job here in Medway.  The Director of Information Services is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the computer and information technology systems for not only the Town of Medway but also for all the Medway Public Schools.  In short, he’s the guy who keeps the entire Town up and running!

Meet Richard Boucher, Director of Information Services. Richard has been working in municipal/educational technology for the past 23 years.  Prior to working in Medway for the past 10+ years, he worked as the Director of Information Services for the neighboring town of Medfield.

1.  What led you to being Director of Information Services?

Prior to working for the Town of Medway, I managed the Town of Medfield’s IT Operations.  My role in Medfield included many of the functions I perform in my role in Medway today.  Some of the same functions include researching new technologies, budgeting, acquisitions, and implementing all forms of technology, communications, and applications. The opportunity to work for the Town I live in and give back to my own community was a driving force for me to take on this important role for the Town of Medway.

2.  What do you love MOST about serving the people in the Town of Medway?

As a resident of Medway, I love being involved with the community and helping it be the best it can be from a technology standpoint. Serving my community to help educate our children, manage fiscal responsibilities, provide security, and produce quality communications and events such as (Medway Day and Movies in the Park) are proud accomplishments for me.

3.  What do you spend most of your day doing?

As the Director of Information Services for the entire Town, my day is spent between Town, police, fire, and the school department conducting research that will aid in all departments being efficient and meeting their needs. Planning for technology involves a lot of research, budget planning, and advocacy. In addition to the administrative tasks, days are spent aiding the configuration of the network infrastructure, coordinating staff and vendors for various installations and support, and educating myself and team on the latest technologies.

4.  What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

In addition to spending time with family, my favorite activity is to attend sporting events, specifically Red Sox games. As a group season ticket holder, I attend roughly 12+ games a year and love cheering on our team with family and friends.

5.  Favorite Place to Travel?

Although going away is always fun, the stay-cation is one of my favorite things to do. Relaxing by the pool, day trips to Six Flags, golfing, or adventuring out to a new location is always a great time.

More about Richard

I am a UMass Lowell Alumni with a degree in Information Technology and a minor in Business.  I’m the proud father of one, married for 20 years this July, and have lived in Medway for the past 14 years.  As a member of the Medway Cable Board for the past 13 years, I help to guide the direction of our local access television programming and provide resources for our community.  One function I truly enjoy as a board member is helping to manage the “Movies in the Park” series every summer and seeing so many of our residents attend.
