Shake Rob Pearl's hand at the Open House being put on in his honor on Monday, January 28th by Medway Public Schools. Please join Medway Public Schools at the Thayer House, 2B Oak Street between 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to shake Rob's hand for yourself.

As he gets ready to retire on January 31st, I wanted to sit down with Rob to discuss the highlights of his 14-year career as Medway's Athletic Director.  I'd like to share a snap shot of our conversation:

Rob started his career teaching physical education at Milford High School, his alma mater.  In addition to teaching, he was the Varsity soccer coach for 13 years and the Junior Varsity soccer coach for 2 years.

He started as the Athletic Director in Medway in August, 2005.

Highlights as Medway's Athletic Director:

  1. Adding Programs
  • Varsity Girls Ice Hockey
  • Varsity Gymnastics
  • Varsity Swim co-op team with Holliston
  • Varsity Wrestling co-op with Bellingham
  • Varsity Alpine Skiing
  • Club Sports: Ultimate Frisbee
  • Middle School Field Hockey
  • Middle School Volleyball
  • Middle School Cross Country
  • Middle School Tennis
  • Middle School Track & Field (Spring)
  • Middle School Golf

2. Turf Fields (EPFRAC Member from inception to completion)

Since inception, inclusive of pre-planning, design and construction, up until opening day, Rob was involved in the turf fields.  As part of the EPFRAC committee, which met on a weekly basis for almost a year,  Rob played an important role. As a past President of the Medway Youth Soccer Program and in his current role as Athletic Director, Rob was well aware of the needs of the school and various youth programs and played an integral role in the pre-planning, design and construction of all the turf fields..

3.  Medway Athletic Van

The Mustang Mobile, as Rob fondly calls it, has the capacity to hold 14 people plus a driver.  Rob saw a need as well as a cost savings to acquiring a van of this size.  After tracking the usage and determining the cost savings, Rob presented the idea to the school committee. Through the facilitation of both the schools and the town, the Mustang Mobile was purchased.  It is currently used to transport the Freshman basketball teams, golf team, track teams and is utilized 2/week by the ski team.  It has also been used for bonus trips by the fishing club and music department for special occasions.

4.  Turkey Trot

After participating in a local race, Rob Pearl and his friend, Chuck Dwyer thought "wouldn't it be nice to have a race on Thanksgiving morning".  Next thing you know, The Turkey Trot was born!  8 years later and $95,000 raised, all money has been spent on uniforms for all athletic teams.  Currently there are 6 members on the Turkey Trot committee and Rob works very closely with them.

5.  Every Day Running of Department

Rob enjoys the every day running of the Athletic Department. He has savored watching the student athletes grow over the years and basked in their individual and team successes.  He has also taken pleasure in the relationships he has formed with the coaches he has hired and worked with over the years.

Rob has seen Medway win 34 Tri Valley League Titles and 8 Sectional Crowns!

Rob has been a true class-act throughout his career.  As he officially leaves his role in Medway on January 31st, his integrity shines thru as he goes above and beyond one last time, escorting 2 Medway athletes to the MIAA Girls & Women in Sport Day in Fanueil Hall on February 1st (the day after he officially retires).  Each year Rob has the privilege of choosing 2 Medway female athletes to be honored at the MIAA Girls & Women in Sport event.  He shared that the past winners have been 2-3 season athletes that have made a difference both on and off the field/court. MIAA Girls & Women in Sport

Please stop by the Thayer House, 2B Oak Street on January 28th from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to shake Rob's hand and wish him well!
