1.Talk about your artform

Ever since I can remember, I have always felt a need to create. I have always gravitated towards drawing, doodling or putting colors and shapes together. Unlike artists who have one particular medium, I have a variety of outlets to express myself, and like many artists I tend to create in a variety of areas in my life. Interior design, photography and skin care products is what I am focused on.

When my kids were younger, we always did creative things together. Arts & crafts were a big part of our life. Now that my three children are teenagers, I’ve put most of my creative time into my work.

Interior Designer-

I studied Interior Design at Wentworth Institute of Technology. I focused on commercial design right out of college, later transitioning into residential design. It’s a perfect balance of creativity; designing functional spaces for living or working.

Designing is personal. I need to understand my client to create a space for them.

A well designed space is functional and an extension of the person(s) living there. Their space should reflect themselves.

Photographer–

Capturing a moment in a photograph has always been a love for me. If I see something that’s beautiful, I need to capture it, whether it’s the sky, flower, or architecture. I often travel throughout New England and photograph really anything. There is so much to see. Massachusetts has many different landscapes and changes so much through the seasons.
I hope to inspire someone to see things differently, maybe travel outside of their comfort zone.

I will have a crazy, busy day, but I will always take the time for a picture, it takes just a few seconds.

I love taking portraits, capturing the person, their personality and beauty. I love to see the different sides of people and to capture their uniqueness in a photo session. I hope for the person to see a side of themselves that they don’t typically see.

Once a client said to me “You captured by son’s personality perfectly” was the greatest compliment since I didn’t know him before taking his picture.

Maker of skin care-

My skin is very sensitive and will dry as soon as cool weather is here in the fall. I tried every lotion out there and my hands were still dry/chapped. I began to limit the chemicals I put on my skin and started making my own lotion from organic ingredients (such as shea butter & coconut oil). My hands finally healed and I never went back to using other products. That’s how I began making and selling my own lotion and lip balms, Naturals By M.E.

What inspires you?

Nature inspires me and the work of other artists. How they interpret the world is always inspiring. Mary has a Blog called Made in Medway where she interviews and photographs Medway residents and their artwork.

What are your favorite subjects to photograph?

That’s a tough one, I would say nature, things that are in their natural state, the sky and people.

Tell us about your webpage Made in Medway? How did that get started? Are the photographs your own?

I felt there was a lack of visible art in our community. I know there are artists out there, creators, designers, makers etc… I wanted to share them with the community. Hopefully I inspire others to be creative and share their artwork.

I hope Medway residents will follow my page to see how talented people are in our community.
