Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I get a copy of my plot plan?
To obtain a building permit you are not required to have a certified plot plan, you may use a mortgage survey plan.

The building department has a limited amount of residential & commercial plot plans, so please call to check with us.  If we have a plot plan we will be happy to make a copy of it for you..

If we do not have a copy of your plot plan, and would like one, you must hire a surveyor at your own expense.

What Zoning District am I in, or who can tell me?  -  What are my zoning set-backs?
You may obtain the Zone District you are in or your Zoning set-backs by reading the Medway Zoning Map or speaking to the Building Commissioner who is the Zoning Enforcement Agent. The setbacks for each zone are noted on the zoning map.

How can I request an inspection?
You may request any building, electrical, plumbing or gas inspection by phoning the building department office at 508-533-3253.  For a gas, plumbing or electrical inspection you will either be connected directly to the inspector's voicemail by the office staff, or you may select the appropriate inspector's voicemail from the selections indicated in the phone message.  When leaving a message for the inspector please leave your name, location of work, type of inspections (i.e. electrical – rough inspection) and a phone number where you may be reached.  For building or mechanical inspections you may phone the building department and speak directly with the Building Commissioner or his staff who will leave him a message, or you may leave a message on his voicemail.

Note: If you have hired a contractor it is essential that they call in the inspection, unless you are the general contractor.

There is a re-inspection fee for any failed inspection, either because the work was incorrect or not ready for inspection, or the inspector was unable to view the work. The re-inspection fee must be paid before the inspector will return.
