The Contractor is now working on final paving north of Medway High School.  Please sek alternate routes and be aware that this is a construction zone with reduced speeds posted.  Handwork on driveways and side streets will begin directly after main route is paved.

Shaw Street has been closed indefinately at present. The Charles River turns 180 degrees at Shaw Street before doubling back and crossing at the bridge into Franklin.  At the 180 turn, the river is undermining the road.  All the trees in the area have been cut down to prevent the collapse of the entire bank in the area.  This has helped, but the undermining goes beyond what is visible.  It extends into Shaw Street for an unknown distance.  This condition will get worse with spring rains.  As a safety precaution, we elected to close the street to through traffic.  It is inconvenient, but there is a real possibility of a car or truck causing the road to collapse and having a serious accident.  We want to minimize the stress on the road as best we can.

We are in the process of contracting W.L. French Excavating to do the repairs.  They have been in touch with NSTAR, Verizon, and other utilities to have two poles relocated across the street temporarily to allow for installation of the sheet piling.  We have stressed the emergency situation with NSTAR and Verizon and they assure us that they will cooperate.  Schedule calls for re-opening of the road this year with final paving repairs to be done next year.
